Modifying a pair of 48 Dellorto DRLAs for use on the supercharged
Type 4 engine pictured below. This entails machining the carburettor bodies to
allow fitment of turbo seals to the throttle spindles |

2366cc Type 4 with Eaton M45 supercharger, blowing through two 48
DRLAs (pictured above). The blower installation and design was carried out by
owner Richard Morgan (Moggy). Final blower belt routing was altered from that
shown in the picture. |
 |
A closer look at the supercharger. Moggy carefully designed the
mounting of the blower and intake system in order to fit everything into a Type
1 engine bay with the engine lid closed - an impossible feat with the DLI
blower kit. |

This 2276cc Type 1 street engine, fitted with CSP Porsche cooling
kit made 166 bhp @ 6000rpm on the dyno. It's being fitted to Wendy Clegg's
super clean Karmann Ghia. Exhaust header is 1 5/8" stainless steel. |

To achieve desired deck height, these Pauter Machine cylinders were
trimmed to suit. The extra long cylinders avoid the need for spacers when using
long stroke/long rod combinations and provide full piston skirt support at
BDC |

Turbocharged, fuel injected 2466cc Type 4 finally makes it onto the
dyno. With water/alcohol injection fitted and set to come on at 10psi boost,
the engine made 270bhp @5500rpm and 301 ftlbs of torque at 3500rpm. These
figures were taken at 12 psi boost. |
 |
This is the pump used for the water/alcohol injection system. Once
fitted, this gave an increase in horsepower from 238 to 270 @ 5500 rpm as a
result of the extra ignition advance it permitted me to run. It's made by
ERL. |

March 2000 saw JMR back at the Volksworld Show. Here
are just a few of the goodies we had on display. Lower right - 3 pce Autocraft
case with DTA engine management and Jenvey fuel injection throttle
bodies. |

A closer look at our Porsche cooling kit for the Type
1 engine. The engine is also fitted with a high volume induction box system.
Superior cooling, a 75 amp alternator and superb quality. |

John Rathbone's Pro Turbo car took 'best race car'
trophy. A popular win. |

This is a JMR 2165cc race engine that's been in
service for 7 years. During a pre season freshen up, I found a few of the
lifter bores were worn. Here you can see the bores being machined to accept
custom inserts. |
 |
Preparing to insert the new lifter bore sleeves. I
make the bushes from phosphor bronze bar. They offer superior wear
characteristics to the standard magnesium alloy case material and should be
considered even when using a brand new case if intending to use a radical
valvetrain. |
