A suitably
equipped transmission will enhance the performance of your VW. For a high
performance street car, I can advise on the appropriate gear ratios to suit the
owners style of driving, being careful to match the gear ratios and
strength of the internal components to the torque and power output of the
engine as well as taking into consideration the weight of the vehicle and
overall diameter of the rear tyres. If your engine has been tested on the JMR
dyno, I can carry out a computerised simulation to assist in choosing the right
gear ratios for your application.
The
torque curve of your engine and the gearing of your transmission are the major
factors in determining how your car will perform on the road or track.
Selecting a set of gear ratios that will keep the engine operating within a
specific rpm range is the key to optimum driving performance. Match that with
components that will withstand the amount of power youre putting through
the box and you have a recipe for success.

The ultimate transmission for
a high performance street car has to be the Berg 5 speed. With close ratio 3rd
and 4th gears, topped off with an overdrive 5th, youve got the best of
both worlds: fantastic acceleration through the first four gears and then
another one to go for relaxed high speed cruising. Ive built many Berg 5s
and recommend them highly. |
